Metabolism Boosting Green Smoothie
Have you noticed the green drink craze lately? I don’t know when it started, but I think people would juice everything in their fridge if they could! It’s not a bad craze, though since most people have a tough time getting their recommended amount of fruit and veggies each day. I personally do not have a juicer, just a blender. This works just great for me, and I can gain all the same benefits without missing the fiber.
Long ago when I discovered dark leafy greens could be added to blended drinks with no detected flavor, I was amazed! This drink is all about boosting the metabolism and detoxing. Kale is rich in vitamin A and C, and ginger has wonderful anti-inflammatory properties as well as the ability to fight the common cold and flu. Look up all the benefits yourself for more info. You will be amazed! You can tweak the recipe to be more to your liking, but I added no additional sugar to it. I was going only for benefits and not so much for a desserty-tasting drink. It was citrusy and creamy, since I added protein powder.
Ingredients:
- 6 to 8 ice cubes
- Protein powder (optional)
- 3/4 cup filtered water
- 2 cups chopped kale
- 1/2 cucumber (Peel unless you have a super nice blender)
- 1 clementine
- 1/2 grapefruit
- 1 tbsp chopped ginger
- 1/2 lime juice
It yielded about 20 oz, and was 153 calories with my unsweetened soy vanilla protein powder. Watch me make the smoothie here:

I like to try different smoothie recipes all the time, but this is one green recipe I have yet to try! Once I can get my hands on protein powder and clementine, this will be next on my list.
