I’m not sure if I’ve ever really considered myself to be a particularly disciplined, person. I’ve been called that many times over the course of my life, but I’ve never really….resonated with it. To me a disciplined person looks like someone extremely regimented and always on time, and super super organized….And, yes. Maybe it is those things.
But when I really think about what disciplined means to me, it has to do with setting goals, assigning tasks based on those goals, and then completion. So a person cannot merely be called disciplined because they are a dreamer, or even if they are super organized with their planner. It’s discipline when the action is carried out, andcarried out consistently. Generally, people who do this get results.
This weekend on the FifiCakes Replay I got some quality time in with my best friend as we attended the amazing concert with Beyonce and Jay-Z! In addition to this I went hiking, to brunch, and to my sister and mother’s joint birthday party at my grandmother’s house.
I really had a blast chasing my little nephew around the house. Trust me when I say, the weekend was epic! You’ll just have to see for yourself. 🙂
Lately I have really been into candles. I like different scents ranging from fresh linen, to citrus, to soothing lavender. There was a time when any candle gifted to me would just collect dust. I’ve really been missing out! It got me thinking, what else do I usually do to relax and unwind? Here are my top 20 ways to find peace and relaxation. What are yours?
Likely you’re reading this because you’re already subscribed to my blog for tips and recipes, or if you wandered to this site you’re someone interested in cooking or health.
A little about me, I recently finished a graduate program in mechanical engineering where I focused on solar cooking options for women in developing countries. It was such a good experience, and I honestly wish I had more time to explore.
Now I work full time and I haven’t saved the world yet, but I do make a little impact by working on reducing air pollution. In addition to this, in every moment of spare time I find, I devote myself to helping improving the quality of life of others around me by trading unhealthy habits for good ones! It’s really rewarding to hear stories of weight loss, improved strength, and even the elimination of the need of medication.
Going along with the theme of health, my most prized product is my book, The Divine Hostess: A guide to cooking, hosting & healthy living . I’m proud of this book because it is my way of sharing my personal experiences with learning to cook and discovering healthier ways to do so. Over the years I’ve found I can take charge of my health primarily by the way I choose to fuel my body, and I can have fun doing it!
If you haven’t purchased a copy, please stop by and do so today. You’ll be happy you did!
Rye of Zion Raiment shares his fitness gear must-haves which keep him fashionable, motivated, and well encouraged to push a little further on every single workout!
You will notice I’m a little bit of Nike junky. Nike has gotten a lot of my money in past and will continue to do so because their products don’t fail me. Also if I ever have an issue with any item, they have been responsive and provide corrective services. -Rye
Nike Storm-Fit Tech Gloves
These are my favorite gloves whether I’m running on a chilly day or playing soccer outdoors on a cold day.
The index finger tips on either hand allow you to use your touch screen phone while you wear them.
Nike Pro Combat Hyperstrong Compression 2.0 Shorts
These shorts are designed for basketball for those hard falls and contact, and I also use them for soccer as well. I also use the Nike Compression slider shorts as well.
Nike+ Fuelband SE
I like it because it my daily motivation and reminder to myself to be the best me fitness-wise everyday.
Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour ID Tennis Shoes
I opted for Nike ID option for these because I play a lot of tennis. I’ve been playing tennis since I was about 12 years old. It’s important for me to play in gear that is comfortable in a way that is unique to me. One of the deciding factors that made go was the option to customize your traction for hard court, clay, or grass.
It’s not uncommon for people to fall off from their newly set goals by about the 2nd or 3rd week of the new year. After a month, many will have given up. I made this video to encourage you and refocus you if needed. Please share with others who are setting out to reach new heights with their fitness goals this year!
The photo on the left is what I looked like at the peak of my poor choices.
I exercised about 4 to 5 days per week, but I didnt get enough rest, drink enough water– and did not know a meat free diet would work better for my metabolism. I was constantly doing activities that built muscle, but did not burn fat. I was healthy– but not as healthy or fit as I could be. I needed to detox more and I wasn’t aware of that either. I would detox once a year whereas now, it’s a regular activity. I’m smaller now, but that’s not the point. The point is a feel lighter, less weighed down by toxins, and much more in control of the destiny of my health.
Would you like to hear more about my journey? Let me know, and I can do another post or video. This year I’m working on being more transparent and sharing more of my personal life.
